Isreal's peace initiative---one step forward, two steps back

As the guns and rockets quieted in the vicious war Israel is waging against Hamas and the people of Gaza, prime minister Olmert has taken the high road by lordly announcing, he and his government have not given up on negotiating a treaty leading to the creation of a free, independent Palestine. But his words ring hollow as those of his other pledges have. He also announced the building of more housing for Jews in Arab east Jerusalem, which the Palestinian authority of Abu Mazam rightly called 'a slap in the face'. Israel's followed a carefully drawn scenario in dealing with Palestinians. They promise something, but give absolutely nothing. They are the manor born in the lands they occupy and conquered, and the conquered have but one option--to submit.
18Brumaire highly recommends Neve Gordon's 'Shadowplays' in the 24 March 2008 issue of 'The Nation' magazine. There he reviews two books by Hillel Cohen who accidentally stumbled across declassified files which the Israeli authorities unwittingly opened to public scrutiny before they reclassified them when they realised their mistake. Cohen now lets the cat out of the bag. Here's a tidbit. Cohen quotesEzra Danin, head of the secret services Arab department from 1940 to 1948 in ways to control, infilitrate, and turn Palestinians into collaborators even before the creation of the Jewish state. He prosed that the Jewish agency use 'such activit[ies]...similar to the way the Nazis worked in Denmar, Norway, and Holland--touching on every area of life'. And there you have it. The very Nazis who were exteminating Jews in Europe are to be copied by the Zionists in dealing with Palestinians! And in ways big and small the Zionist state for the last 60 years have not deviated from the textbook of occupation of their German teachers in dealing with Palestinians in Gaza, on the left bank, and even Israeli Arabs who in theory are equal to Jews in Israel!. It doesn't take much imagination to see this in the way Olmert & co. have been pulling out all plugs in their seemingly never ending war against Hamas in Gaza. Even the most fervent supports of Israel stood aghast at their behaviour. But to stay their hand, it requires an icy shower by Herr Bush to stop the Israelis in their track. Fat chance at that since he is a war monger of Israeli proportions. So the Israeli leopard never changes spots but their record is no longer hidden in the details which Israeli historians are bringing to the light of day!
