Five years in Iraq and counting

Yesterday marked year 5 year of the war Herr Bush lied his country into in Iraq. As 18Brumaire remarked yesterday, Herr Bush surrounded himself with a phalanx of his generals and officers at the Pentagon to give a rousing but mendacious and meterious speech about how he has achieved his goals...by bringing democracy and freedom to Iraq and belling the Al Qaeda cat. [How come old cock of the walk Osama bin Laden is still alive and well and mocking you as you speak?]
All over America there were protests against a seemingly never ending war but the press kept its coveraged muted or shelved in the inner pages with a minimum of commentary. On MacNeil Lehrer the beltway voice of conservative opinion, they still had to show how even handed they were by marshalling the pro war clan to cancel out the vox populi who oppose overwhelming the war at present. And then there is an Iraqi American university professor who sneers at the opposition because most Americans want the more especially since America's losing the war and the hearts and minds of the country of his birth. He sneers but won't turn down their opposition, despite the reason, and for that, he's right.
What makes liberal opposition to the war infuriating is that it still believes in the myth that the US is and should be the world's policeman. A loud gaffaw, please! Illusions die hard, the more the pity! McCain is bonkers on the war, he keeps talking about Al Qaeda where it ain't; Obama will privatise the war and Hillary like Obama will keep around 60.000 troops there with a long list of military bases and long leases on oil fields but even that won't stop the fighting! So the endless war will go on as the us$ weakens and so does the economy and the burden of the poor and working classes suffer as the rich wear togas and laurel crowns and lapse in the luxury of ill gotten wealth.
